BREEDER AND EXHIBITOR OF  DACHSHUND SMOOTH HAIRED

 My involvement with dogs began when I was a toddler,  firstly with German Shepherds, my father bred and showed them. I continued with GSD's until my last boy passed away in 1995.

I purchased my first dachshund Smooth Haired in 1977, and became totally hooked on the breed. My dogs are my family and live in the house with me, not in kennels.

I breed a litter occasionally, and puppies are sometimes available to show or pet homes, however, I have a strict selection process when choosing new homes for my puppies. I make no apology for this, my puppies welfare is of the utmost importance to me.

BEKKRI is proud to announce that we are the first breeder in Australia to x-ray for IVDD. Testing via x-ray began in Denmark early in the 1990's, and has become mandatory over there for all breeding stock before a litter can be registered. I am hoping to see it become mandatory here in the not too distant future.
There was no testing scheme available in Australia, so I decided to do something about it.
After discussing with my vet about the possibility of starting a back x-ray scheme here in Australia, I gathered all the relevant information from Denmark and passed it on to him.

The first x-ray has been done and sent to Denmark for reading. "Desi's" results are back. She is graded K6. "Albert" has also been x-rayed. He is graded K2.

Besides conformation shows, we also compete in Earthdog. This is great fun for both handler and dog. There is much excitement from the team when they know they are going to Earthdog. They absolutely love it, and it is wonderful to see them doing and enjoying what they were originally bred for.
Titles can be earned and BEKKRI is proud to be the breeder, owner and handler of the first pedigreed, registered dachshund in Australia to gain an earthdog title, and this dog didn't start earthdog until after her 7th birthday.
