Juvenile Epilepsy (J.E)
Juvenile Epilespy is a genetic disorder, causing seizures among dogs. It is reported that around 0.5%-5% of dogs will develope J.E in their lifetime. A seizure is a sudden event when the body muscles tighten and spasm, which give involentary jerking movements. A seizure can last from a few seconds, a few minutes or even an hour. When a dog has J.E, they will experience an 'aura' leading up to when the seizure is about to start. The symptoms include major salivating, licking, pacing and barking.
If two J.E positive dogs are mated, their puppies will almost definately have epilespy at some point in their lifetime. However, if one dog is a carrier (meaning they do not HAVE J.E, but simply carry the genes) and is mated with a J.E negetive dog, then their puppies will be clear of J.E but may still carry the gene onto their puppies.
At Lostalire, our Lagotto's are clear of Juvenile Epilepsy, meaning our puppies will be healthy, sound and J.E free.
